Not Just For Cocktails: Uses For Simple Syrup

June 29, 2021

Typically when we think about how to use simple syrup, the first thing that comes to mind are cocktails. At Simple Goodness Sisters, we find that train of thought to be perfectly reasonable. But simple syrup has many uses beyond its ability to liven up a cocktail or mocktail.

The Simple Goodness Sisters Mule

March 25, 2021

The Simple Goodness Cocktail Farm Mule is an approachable, incredibly easy to make variation on the Moscow Mule.

We named it after our farm because you can muddle in any fresh herb, berry, fruit, or even vegetable for innumerable variations. It is delicious when made with any one of our Simple Goodness Sisters syrups for instant, fresh garden flavor.

The Moscow Mule falls into the larger cocktail category of "Buck" cocktails, which are known for having ginger ale or ginger beer, citrus, and any number of base spirits. You can use vodka and ginger beer for a traditional Moscow Mule, or bourbon and ginger beer for a Tennessee Mule. A Kentucky Mule adds fresh mint to the Tenessee Mule ingredients (or you can use our Marionberry mint syrup) for a nod to the derby cocktail, the Mint Julep. These days, the Moscow Mule is such a popular cocktail that "bucks" and "mules" have come to have the same meaning. The Moscow Mule is known as a new classic. It doesn't go back as far as pre-prohibition, but it's beloved by many drinkers. The official mule was a cocktail born from a co-advertising effort between a soda company and a vodka brand. They combined their products in a fancy copper mug to distinguish the drink from others, and a classic was born.

This garden inspired mule has always been on the menu for our catering company, Happy Camper Cocktails. It's fast to make, it's delicious, and it's nearly universally loved. It's a great drink for a crowd or for serving at parties because you can make a ton of them very quickly. Better yet, you can set up a little bar with all of the ingredients and let people mix and match their own favorite spirit and syrup for a custom, DIY drink.

Nearly equally good as a mocktail, it's also very quick to make with just a few ingredients, making it great for parties, camping, a quick drink after work, going out on the boat, playdates in a park with your mom friends (we see you, and we salute you!) etc.

I promise you can recreate this in about 60 seconds at home, using any of our syrup flavors- we especially love how the berry flavors come through and add color!

The Simple Goodness Cocktail Farm Mule

Why it's great: quick, crowd pleasing, and interesting turn on the traditional Moscow mule.

makes 1 serving

Glass: copper mule mug or cocktail glass

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 ounces vodka
  • 1/4- 1/2 ounce (to taste, and depending on the spiciness of your ginger beer) any Simple Goodness Sisters syrup flavor, we particularly love the berry flavors
  • 3 ounces ginger beer (we love our locally brewed Timber City Ginger Beer, and recommend checking whether anyone around you makes a fresh brew, or look for a good spicy flavor sold nationally like Gosling's)
  • 1/6 of a lime, cut into a wedge
  • ice (crush it if you feel like it)
  • mint or berry garnish, optional but pretty!

How to make it: combine all ingredients in a rocks glass, stir well to combine, squeeze in the lime. That is it. And that's why I love this drink: unique, flavorful, and super fast.

Happy drinking, friends! Please continue to tag us on Instagram and facebook when you mix your drinks. We can't wait to see what you're making with SGS syrups!

The Non-alcoholic Garden Mule

The Simple Goodness Martini

March 25, 2021

The Martini is a go-to recipe that is open to adaptation and variation.

It's flexible, it's fun. It's easy to drink and it's known as a crow pleaser. From the Lemon Drop to the Cosmopolitan, martinis have been invented for every flavor profile under the sun.

Still, we think the Simple Goodness Sisters Martini stands alone. It's special...

The Simple Goodness Sisters Martini cocktail brings a base spirit, usually vodka, fresh citrus juice, and any of our Simple Goodness Sisters syrups into one glass. It should be served very, very cold, and we do recommend adding one of our very gorgeous floral sugars to your martini glass rim. If you're feeling extra creative and adventurous, try pairing two of the syrups together:

  • Lemon Herb + Fresh Lemon Juice = Herbaceous Lemon Drop
  • Blueberry Lavender + Berry Sage + Lemon Juice = Mixed Berry & Herbs
  • Blueberry Lavender + Rhubarb Vanilla + Lime Juice = Sweet Tart
  • Rhubarb Vanilla + Berry Sage + Lemon Juice = Strawberry Rhubarb Pie
  • Marionberry Mint + Lime Basil + fresh lime juice = Summer Sweetness
  • Rhubarb Vanilla + Fresh Orange Juice = Creamsicle
  • Lemon Herb + Fresh Grapefruit Juice =
  • Blueberry Lavender + Lemon Herb + Lemon Juice = Blueberry - Lemon Tart

Let us know what you come up with! Make your own version of our martini and tag us on social media so we can learn from your bartending skills!

The Simple Goodness Martini

Makes 1

Glass: martini glass

Ingredients:

  • 2 ounces vodka (you can also use a flavored vodka like a citrus vodka or lavender vodka, but may need to adjust the syrup if it gets too sweet)
  • ¾ ounce Simple Goodness Sisters syrup in any flavor, see suggestions above
  • ¼ ounce fresh squeezed citrus juice, optional
  • Simple Goodness Sisters floral sugar for rim
  • 1 cup of ice

Prepare a martini glass by rimming the glass with lavender sugar. Run a slice of a lemon along the rim of the glass. Pour a small amount of floral sugar onto a plate and gently roll the glass rim in the sugar to coat. Into a cocktail shaker, pour the Simple Goodness Sisters syrup, ¼ ounce of fresh squeezed lemon juice, and 2 ounces of vodka. Add ice to the cocktail shaker, cap, and shake just until the outside of the tins is cold. Strain into the rimmed martini glass.
