DIY Lemonade Bar: A Mix-and-Match Garden Party Showstopper

March 24, 2026

An interactive, Pinterest-perfect lemonade station using real fruit syrups from Simple Goodness Syrups- or make your own using the simple syrup recipes in our book "Drink Your Garden!"

If you’re hosting a garden party, bridal shower, baby shower, or summer gathering, a DIY lemonade bar is one of the easiest ways to create an interactive moment your guests will actually remember (and photograph). It’s colorful, low-lift, and endlessly customizable—plus it invites people to play with their drinks in a way that feels both nostalgic and elevated.

This is not your standard pitcher-of-lemonade situation. This is a build-your-own, mix-and-match lemonade beverage bar—powered by fresh citrus and Simple Goodness farm-crafted syrups.

Or, if you have our book Drink Your Garden: Recipes, Stories and Tips from the Simple Goodness Cocktail Farm, you can use the entire chapter we have on how to craft your own simple syrups for mocktails, cocktails, and coffee at home using fresh ingredients (the chapter includes a chart on how to infuse anything so your experiments don't end up as a waste of time and ingredients) to mix up a few of your own syrups for guests to enjoy!

Why Make a DIY Lemonade Station

  • It's playful, nostalgic, and interactive: Guests create their own flavor combos, and who doesn't love lemonade?

  • Visually stunning: Think layered colors, fresh garnishes, glass bottles

  • Non- alcoholic, or alcohol optional: Works beautifully as a zero-proof or cocktail-friendly setup, while feeling elevated and special

  • Scalable: Perfect for 10 guests or 200

And from a host perspective? It’s prep-ahead friendly, inexpensive and easy to maintain.

What You’ll Need for Your Lemonade Bar

1. The Lemonade Recipe Base

Start with a batch of our signature fresh lemonade, this recipe serves 4 so multiply it as needed for your group:

  • 8 oz real lemon juice- preferably avoid bottled juice but for a big group, you can use a mix of fresh and bottled for optimal flavor
  • 16 oz water

Mix in advance and chill well - don't add ice until just before you're ready to serve. This is your blank canvas. It will be extremely sour, so guests can add the sweetness to their own taste, with their flavored syrups!

Serving tip: Pour into glass bottles or carafes for easy self-serve. Keep glass sizes small, and include a bucket of fresh ice with a scoop if you will be using glassware or disposable cups- 8 to 12 ounces is perfect once you add ice, it will equal the 6 ounce portion. Pre-portioning into 6 oz bottles makes it even smoother for guests to grab and go.

2. Simple Goodness Syrups (The Star of the Show)

Offer a selection of 3–5 syrups, either homemade or let us do the work for you with our cane sugar and real fruit, herb and spice syrups made in small batches on our farm. Include multiple flavors so guests can mix, match, and experiment. Pour spouts are a nice to have accessory to keep the area clean and are found inexpensively online.

We recommend adding 1-2 ounces of syrup, depending on flavor used and personal preference.

Crowd-favorite combos:

  • Berry Sage- classic and a crowd pleaser (the sage is light) shop here
  • Blueberry Lavender- pretty purple color, very popular- shop here
  • Rhubarb Vanilla- the lightest pink, sweet and stunning- shop here
  • Lavender- a classic, ours is made with real lavender carefully infused for balance shop here
  • Herb Garden- bright and herbaceous- shop here

Set out small jigger pourers or bar spoons so guests can control sweetness and flavor intensity.

3. Fresh Garnish Bar

This is where your table really comes to life, and a lot of fun artistic options are available as a host! I love to use thrifted glasses, wood bowls and vases in different sizes for a layered, collected look, then fill them with pre-washed garnishes.

Include:

  • Fresh berries (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries)
  • Citrus slices or wheels, dried or fresh
  • Herb sprigs (mint, basil, thyme)
  • Edible flowers (our book guides you on the best edible flowers to grow in a cocktail garden)
  • Rhubarb stalks dipped in sugar for dramatic stir sticks

Ice + Glassware

  • Fill a large ice bucket (or two) and keep it topped off
  • Use Collins glasses, mason jars, or recycled bottles. Keep the vessel sizes small, 6- 8 ounces, or up to 12 ounce capacity if you will be using ice, is ideal
  • Provide paper or reusable straws

Pro tip: For a big group, a way to move folks through more quickly is to fill glasses all the way with ice first just before guests arrive.

Optional Add-Ons (To Elevate the Experience)

  • Custom labels or signage (“Build Your Own Lemonade”) with a recipe can guide the portions of syrup to add so guests know how many spoonfuls or ounces of syrup to add
  • Ribbons, straw toppers, umbrellas, etc for decorating the drink
  • Sparkling water for a fizzy finish
  • A small spirits section, either alcoholic or nonalcoholic (vodka or gin pair beautifully, but aperitifs and liqueurs (try the ones homemade in Spirits chapter of our book, Drink Your Garden) are fun as well. Try Aperol, Campari, Ghia (a non-alcoholic alternative) Poblano Liqueur, or Raspberry Vodka- limit the spirit in the drink to 1.5 ounces per serving
  • Handwritten flavor pairing cards for inspiration

How to Set It Up (Pinterest-Worthy Styling Tips)

  • Layer heights: Use crates, cake stands, or boxes under linens. Add a tall flower arrangement or big bowl of lemons for impact
  • Stick to a palette: Soft pastels, garden greens, or bold berry tones for the syrups, table coverings, and glassware. Consider contrasting colors for the garnishes so they stand out in the glass (i.e. red syrup paired with a green herb sprig or orange calendula flower)
  • Use real materials: Wood, linen, glass—skip plastic when possible

Think abundant, not perfect. For us, the goal is always “organic and effortless farm gathering,” not overstyled perfection.

Guest Experience: How It Works

Create simple signage so guests know what to do:

  1. Fill your glass with ice
  2. Add lemonade base
  3. Stir in your favorite syrup(s)
  4. Top with garnish
  5. Sip + repeat

It’s intuitive, fun, and keeps people coming back to try new combinations.

A DIY Lemonade Bar is Perfect For Events like:

  • Garden parties
  • Bridal showers
  • Baby showers
  • Summer birthdays
  • Outdoor weddings
  • Farm dinners + events

Make It Pin-Worthy

If you’re creating content or want your guests to share:

  • Place the bar in natural light
  • Include a “hero” setup - use a vintage furniture piece as the bar station, or set it up in front of a beautiful backdrop.
  • Use layered textures like fresh garnishes displayed in vases or glassware, and prioritize vibrant syrup colors like Simple Goodness Blueberry Lavender or Berry Sage
  • Make the first drink before everyone arrives, to use as an example and so that you don't forget to capture your own finished drink to share on your social

A Better Kind of Lemonade

At the end of the day, this setup works because the ingredients are real, and everyone needs something to do at a party. Getting guests involved in their drinks makes for a fun ice breaker. Fresh lemon juice, thoughtfully made syrups, and seasonal garnishes create something that tastes as good as it looks. Now shop syrups and start planning your beverage bar!
