The Simple Goodness Margarita- the low sugar cocktail you need to fall back in love with

January 29, 2021

The margarita is a drink that needs very little introduction.

We've all had one, we've all had bad ones, and if anything, I find myself behind the bar convincing people to try one again. I love a classic margarita that is made with fresh lime juice, spirits, and agave syrup or, of course, Simple Goodness Sisters syrups. They're festive, they're full of flavor, and they pair really well with a lot of foods. At their worst, they're abrasive, and packed with sugary mix to mask the cheap liquor. We've all been there, I think.

But allow us to introduce you to a new kind of margarita recipe, a simply good one.

This one is so easy and pleasurable to drink you'll never again order a bucket at your local Mexican restaurant. Scratch that, you probably will, but you'll now know what you're missing, and we won't apologize for that, haha! The margarita is a classic 2-1-1 ratio recipe, usually made with 2 ounces of tequila, 1 ounce of Cointreau, and 1 ounce of fresh lime juice. It's classic for a reason, because it's delicious.

The only change we've made is to split the sweetness- half comes in from he Simple Goodness Sisters syrup, instead of it all coming from Cointreau (you can use another triple sec but this one is recommended for a reason, it's just the best.)

Our syrups are made with pure cane sugar, water, and whole ingredients, so they're all the convenience of a margarita mixer in terms of bringing in new flavor, but with none of the yellow dye number whatever, and you only need half an ounce- that's 30 calories, and very little added sugar. You guys know what this means? It means the margarita is no longer a 500 calorie indulgence, or a hangover machine. It's simply good, and I think you're going to fall back in love with them.

The Simple Goodness Sisters Margarita Recipe

Glass: margarita glass, stemless wine glass

Ingredients:

  • 2 ounces 100% agave silver tequila
  • 1/2 ounce (to taste) Simple Goodness Sisters Syrup - we especially love Rhubarb Vanilla Bean, Lemon Herb, Blueberry Lavender, and Berry Sage
  • 1/2 ounce orange liqueur such as Cointreau
  • 1 ounce fresh lime juice
  • Simple Goodness Sisters floral rimming salt

How to Make it:

First, rim a martini or coupe glass with Simple Goodness Sisters floral salt rim by pouring a bit of the floral salt onto a shallow dish. Rub the cut lime along the edge of your margarita glass, then dip and roll the glass rim in the salt until it is coated all the way around. Or, for the presentation shown above, rub the lime juice in a crescent shape on one side of the glass and dip it in the sugar. This allows the drinker to skip the salt when they choose to.

Next,  in a cocktail shaker combine all ingredients and shake over ice until the outside of the shaker is very cold, about 25 seconds. Pour contents of shaker into glass. Garnish with an orange slice and edible flowers (snapdragons and nasturtium are shown here.)
