Simple Syrups on Desserts: delectably easy upgrades to your sweet tooth's favorite recipes

March 01, 2023

We formulated our syrups for drinks, but darn it if they aren't amazing in desserts as well. Simple syrups are essential components of many classic desserts from cakes to sorbets, ice cream sundaes to fruit salads. Since our simple syrups are made in small batches with whole, homegrown ingredients we harvest and source from other local farms, our syrups are particularly fitted to elegant and flavorful desserts.

After all, as Queen Martha always says, you need to use "Best in Class" ingredients to produce the best possible tasting results. We've taken the fresh flavors of every season and preserved them for you with our fruit, herb, and spice syrups so you can add elevated flavors to your sweet treats, really simply. A fancy dessert recipe calling for a Rhubarb Vanilla Bean syrup is probably not going to be your go-to unless you have a time saver like our syrups, that doesn't compromise on flavor while being entirely convenient. And, we hope our syrups not only save you time but ignite your creativity. Would a simple pound cake get to the next level if it was drizzled with rhubarb vanilla bean syrup and garnished with lemon zest and pickled blueberries? I bet it would, but you'll have to try it, I'm just riffing here.

I can vouch that our lemon herb syrup as a cake soak on a rustic olive oil cake is the kind of thing that makes people go "ohmigosh what IS this?" with pleasure when they take a bite. You aren't playing around when you serve fresh cut berries tossed in berry sage syrup, dappled with crunched merringues and some fresh herbs. You get the idea: you gotta try these!

Using Simple Goodness Simple Syrups As a Cake Soak

This is one of the reasons bakeries cakes taste better than cakes at home: bakers add a layer of flavored simple syrups to the top of each cake layer to add flavor and seal in moistness.

It's super easy, too: just use a basting brush or pastry brush to brush syrup onto the top of a cooled cake, allowing the cake to absorb the liquid for a dreamy texture and a little added sweetness. (If you add the syrup when the cake is hot from the oven it will soak in too quickly and you won't be able to get the syrup on evenly.) Adding moisture to cake sponge with a syrup soak is a pro way to bring a slightly overcooked and dry cake back to life!

This is also a way that professional bakers add layers of exciting flavor to their desserts. Combining spices, herbs, sweet, and sour flavors gives interest to a dish, and keeps our taste buds excited for more. Your one-note cakes can sign 4 part harmonies if you add our garden to glass simple syrups to the mix, layering the cake, syrup soak, and frosting flavors in intriguing ways.
