Freezer Door Old Fashioned Cocktails: Batched Old Fashioneds

December 05, 2023

If Old Fashioneds cocktails are your go-to, this recipe is for you!

Not your thing? Well, when you have people over, it's probably one of THEIR favorite cocktails. There's a reason the Old Fashioned is consistently on the "most popular bar cocktails" lists. And now, you can batch them up for convenient pours.

Old Fashioneds have extremely stable ingredients and therefore are a brilliant choice for pre- batching, They also have no carbonation so you can actually batch a whole lot of them, bottle them up and store them in your freezer for a very long time- we;re talking months later they'll taste the same. As you can see, this is a great option for "drop by" and party season, so you have a ready to go drink whenever the occasion calls!

To fill a 32 ounce bottle using the recipe below for our Simply Good Old Fashioneds, you want to use this recipe

Freezer Batched Old Fashioneds

MAKES 7 SERVINGS

  • 1.5 ounces Simple Goodness Rhubarb Vanilla Bean, Apple Pie, or preferred syrup
  • 3/4 ounce (or 20 dashes) orange bitters, angostura biitters, or cardamom bitters (we love cardamom with Apple Pie, orange with Rhubarb Vanilla Bean and Lemon Herb, and angostura with any berry flavor
  • 14 ounces Rye Whiskey or Bourbon, to your preference but use the GOOD stuff- not the GREAT stuff, but this is not the recipe for lower shelf whiskey (this will use most of a standard fifth bottle, which is 25 ounces total)
  • 6 ounces filtered water

TO MAKE IT:

Stir the bitters and syrup together at the bottom of a 1 quart glass mason jar. Add whiskey and water, stir. Cap with a plastic lid and seal, store frozen. To serve measure out 2 and 1/2 ounces of the mix into a rocks glass, add a 2 inch square ice cube and a cocktail cherry. Garnish with an orange twist.
