Simple Goodness Marionberry Mint Mojito

February 05, 2019

We've reinvented a classic with a Northwest spin on the Cuban cocktail the mojito. The traditional drink calls for mint, white rum, club soda, lime, and super fine sugar. We sub in our Marionberry Mint Simple Syrup for a serious punch of flavor that tastes purely like an #Upperleft Northwest summer. During which, as you'll hear when you watch the video, one or the other of us always seems to be pregnant. I mention that because this drink makes our absolute favorite mocktail, just leave out the rum for a refreshing and tasty drink.

Refreshing, tart and sweet, marionberry and mint are inescapable summer flavors in the PNW. Though not native sons, they love to grow here, often more than we farmers would like. With Marionberry Mint we’ve embraced these invasive, unstoppable plants and delicious, and bottled their bounty for your front porch sipping enjoyment.

We talk at the beginning of the video about how we like to grow mint at each of our homes. Its a total staple for our bars and kitchens and is one of the easiest herbs to grow at home, so we highly recommend transplanting some this Spring. Mint grows wild quickly and easily, so we recommend some kind of containment for the plant, unless, as Venise mentioned, you have 9 acres and a very hearty appetite for mint! A container pot works well for this, or half a whiskey barrel. When the mint grows too tall and leggy, cut it all the way back down to the dirt and it will gift you with beautiful regrowth. It will return each Spring, just in time for mojito season.

You can also make this mojito recipe with fresh mint and any of our Simple Goodness Sisters syrup flavors, like Huckleberry Spruce Tip or Rhubarb Vanilla Bean. How fun would it be to make a flight of them and serve them all in a line to taste through your favorites? Very fun, so please invite me!

And please, friends, share our videos and blog with YOUR friends! We want to bring our garden to glass cocktails to the world and we can't do it without your help!

Marionberry Mint Mojito recipe with Simple Goodness Sisters syrups

Glass: stemless wine glass, cocktail glass, or juice glass

Ingredients:

  • 5 mint leaves
  • 1 ounce of lime juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 1/2 ounce of Simple Goodness Sisters
    Marionberry Mint Syrup
  • 2 ounces mid quality white rum- Bacardi or Flor de Cana are my go-to's
  • 4-6 ounces of club soda
  • 1 lime wedge

How to make the cocktail:

Begin by gently clapping the mint to release the oils into the leaves, then drop the mint into a cocktail shaker, add fresh squeezed lime juice, marionberry mint syrup, and rum. Shake these over ice until the outside of the shaker feels cold, and then strain the cocktail into a fresh glass of ice, top with club soda. Gently stir it to combine, and add a straw to help drink around the fresh mint leaves. Garnish with a lime wedge and a few fresh marionberries (if available.)
