4 Tea Latte Recipes with Simple Syrups

January 26, 2024

It's tea season for us at the Simple Goodness Farm and Soda Shop. Whether you chose tea daily for your morning wake up, your evening wind down, or tea is a daily ritual to take a midday pause, we have a tea recipe with Simple Goodness Sisters syrups in mind for you.

Tea drinking for us is as much about needing something delicious to drink as it is needing something comforting to hold in our hands. The tea itself never used to excite us, until we began mixing up tea drinks with deliciously flavored syrups, juices and milks for more exciting drinks. These types of drinks cost upwards of $5 at a drive through coffee stand in the Seattle area. In the name of research, I tested this out just this week and I got an ok lack tea drink with a very cheaply made lavender syrup from artificial ingredients for $5.20, so I'll be saving my money and making these at home forever more! Using Simple Goodness whole-fruit, spice and herb based simple syrups in your tea lattes and iced tea is an easy way to add layers of fresh flavor without the dyes, extracts, or artificial flavors of most syrups on the market.

Simple syrups in tea add a hint of sweetness to balance out the tannins. Watching your sugar intake? These drinks are perfect to try for a low sugar tea drink because our concentrated, fruit based flavors allow you to add just a bit of syrup so the overall drink remains low in sugar. Simple Goodness syrups blend well with tea and every flavor has a corresponding tea that complements it beautifully.

These recipes will show you how to pair teas with a few of our most popular syrups flavors and make great tea drinks. Feel free to edit these recipes to your preference by chilling the tea before mixing the drink, instead of serving them hot!

Blueberry Lavender London Fog Tea Latte

Canadians have given us so much: maple syrup, Ted Lasso, and the invention of the London Fog tea latte. surprisingly, the drink was first made in British Columbia, not London. Made with blueberry lavender syrup, this tea is the prettiest purple color and so tasty.

  • Earl Gray tea bag
  • 8 oz. water
  • ½ ounce Blueberry Lavender syrup
  • ¼ cup milk
Boil eight ounces of water. Add the early grey tea bag (or loose tea in a tea strainer) to your favorite large mug and pour the boiling water in. Steep the tea for five minutes. Now froth the milk and syrup together with a milk steamer.
Don’t have one? That’s ok! Try one of these methods to heat and froth your milk:
  • Heat the milk slowly over medium low heat in a  saucepan. Use an electric whisk for 2-5 minutes to whip the milk until frothed.

  • Heat milk and add it to a clean French press. Pump the plunger up and down for 30 seconds or more, until froth forms.

  • Add cold milk to a mason jar or cocktail shaker. Seal the lid and shake hard for one minute. Then remove the lid and microwave the milk to heat it, for about 30 seconds.

Remove the tea bag once the tea has reached your desired strength. Top the tea with the frothed milk, gently spooning in the foam.

And Everything Nice Latte

This tea latte is like the equivalent of a draped floral curtain: a little formal and old fashioned, pretty in pink, and you’re either really into it or you’re not. The floral tea is balanced by sweet vanilla and tart berries and the frothed milk will be the prettiest light pink topping. Garnish away with floral petals for an extra fancy cuppa tea!

  • 1 bag Floral tea such as rose, lavender, echinacea
  • 8 oz. water
  • ½ ounce Berry Sage syrup
  • ¼ ounce Rhubarb Vanilla syrup
  • ¼ cup milk
  • Optional: ¼ teaspoon dried edible flower petals such as dried lavender or roses
  • Garnish: flower dust (hibiscus works well) or Simple Goodness Floral Sugar

Boil eight ounces of water. Add the tea bag (or loose tea in a tea strainer) to your favorite large mug and pour the boiling water in. Steep the tea for five minutes. Now froth the milk and syrup together with a milk steamer.

Remove the tea bag once the tea has reached your desired strength. Top the tea with the frothed milk, gently spooning in the foam. Next top with the dried flowers for garnish: first if you’re using larger petals like roses, break the flowers into small pieces that won’t interrupt the drink. Next with one hand hold a piece of paper or a saucer over ¾ of the top of the drink, blocking it. Use your free hand to sprinkle the flowers over the revealed drink top.

Chai Latte

Masala chai is a popular drink that originated in India. Every Indian family will assure you that their mom or Aunties prepare the best chai. We aren’t here to compete with tradition, we’re here to mix it up with simple syrups. Apple Pie syrup and The Coffee simple syrups are both delicious in masala chai. Prepare your own masala using this recipe, or you can use a mix or chai tea bag instead. Note: unlike many teas, masala chai is brewed directly in the milk, not brewed in water with milk added later. I love dirty chai lattes in the morning but often can't handle the extra caffeine the shot of espresso adds to the cup. using the coffee syrup in the recipe instead adds a little coffee flavor with no jitters.

  • 3 to 4 black tea bags
  • 1 cinnamon stick, broken into a few piece's
  • 2 cardamom pods, cracked
  • 2 cloves, whole
  • 2 to 3 black peppercorns, whole (optional, to your spice preference)
  • 1 star anise, whole
  • 1 thumb-sized piece of ginger, peel removed
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup milk or alternative milk (we like barista quality oat milk)
  • 1 to 2 tbsp. Apple Pie syrup or The Coffee syrup

Toast your spices to bring out their flavor: heat the whole spices except for the ginger on loq heat in a saucepan, just until the spices are fragrant. Add the water and ginger and adjust the heat to a medium, bring the water to a simmer. Next add the tea bags. Once the tea has turned the water an amber color, pour in the milk and the syrup flavor of your choice.  Keep the mix at a simmer.  Once the milk begins to foam, but before the froth overflows the pot remove it from heat (careful, as this can happen very quickly- do not walk away!). With the pot off the heat, let the spices and tea steep for five more minutes to develop flavor. Strain out the spice pieces and enjoy.

The OG "Sleepy Girl" Mocktail: a Chamomile Tea Latte

While a sleepy girl mocktail featuring magnesium and cherry juice (which has just trace levels of melatonin) is going viral on tiktok experts are saying the effectiveness may be mostly attributed to placebo affect. However, herbs have long been understood for their health and wellness benefits, and the calming affect of chamomile is well documented. Mix up a tea latte with the original calming sleep aid to help you unwind in the evening, plus an herbal simple syrup for taste you'll look forward to and a warm, comforting aroma as you drink. Make this part of your pre-bed routine with a good book and dim lights and you'll be drifting off quickly!

  • chamomile tea bag or 2 tablespoons loose chamomile flowers, dried or fresh
  • 8 oz. water
  • ½ ounce Lemon Herb or Blueberry Lavender syrup

Boil eight ounces of water. Add the chamomile tea bag (or loose tea in a tea strainer) to your favorite large mug and pour the boiling water in. Steep the tea for five minutes. If you're skipping the milk (dairy can be hard to absorb before bed for some) simply stir in the syrup. Remove the tea bag once the tea has reached your desired strength. and enjoy!
