We’re asked a lot why we chose to have our production headquarters and the Simple Goodness Soda Shop in Wilkeson.
The Simple Goodness Sisters Soda Shop is located just a few miles down the road from the Simple Goodness Cocktail Farm, in Wilkeson, WA. Wilkeson is the gateway to Mount Rainier’s Carbon Glacier, in the Northwest corner of the Mount Rainier National park. This tiny former coal mining town boasts just 500 residents, 8 commercial buildings, and a robust history as the earliest incorporated town in the state. It’s a drive-through town on the closest route to scenic recreation in the National Park, about one hour from Tacoma and Seattle. We’re often asked why we chose to set up shop here, and the answer is varied but also very simple - it felt like an extension of home.
We have a big heart for old things with great stories, and small towns. We grew up spending a lot of time in sleepy little Washington state mining towns. When we bought the building that is now the Simple Goodness Soda Shop, Venise was searching for an affordable property for our headquarters. She found the adjoined buildings at 533 and 535 Church Street, with their storied history as tavern, mercantile, soda fountain, and jewelry store. We fell in love with these stories and the challenge and charm of the 1920’s era buildings.
We were further inspired by the business owners in Wilkeson, including the husband and wife teams behind the Nomad coffee shop and the Carlson Block sourdough woodfired pizzeria. Today, we’re proud to be a part of a business community that honors its past and continues to produce food, drinks, and connections by doing things the old way - with craft, quality, and a lot of heart.
