Venise’s Blog: Kid Kit Supplies

We got our Jeffers order today. Since this is our first time kidding we placed a pretty big order. The bonus was we got free shipping , the down side is it totaled about $150. I feel very confident we are adequately prepared. Below is a list of all the items we have in our kidding kit as well as links to the products we bought from Jeffers Livestock Company.
  • Triodine-7 – Antiseptic and disinfectant
  • Pull Eze Lamb Puller – Helps with difficult deliveries
  • California Mastitis Test – Introductory kit for mastitis detection and control
  • Selenium Gel and Vitamin E Gel – We live in a selenium deficient area so we supplement with selenium gel.
  • Ivomec Wormer – injectable wormer (click HERE for dosage suggestions)
  • Pritchard Teat Nipple – I have heard these are the easiest to use and screw right onto a two liter soda bottle.
  • Betadine Surgical Scrub – just in case we have to go in, we can scrub up!
  • Weak Kid Syringe – Used to tube feed weak kids that won’t nurse.
  • Extra Towels – Kidding is a messy process
  • Lube – Just in case we have to go in.
  • Dental Floss – To tie off the umbilical cord if necessary.
  • Iodine and small film container or shot glass- for dipping umbilical cords.
  • Bulb Syringe – for sucking out kid noses and lungs.
  • Scissors- for cutting the umbilical cord if necessary
  • Molasses – a water sweetener to encourage the doe to drink and stay hydrated.
  • Colostrum Replacer – we are going to dam raise so this is just in case.
  • Band Castrating Tool – Just in case we have little bucklings.
  • Castrating Bands – rubber rings for castrating.
  • Di-Methox Drinking Solution – used to treat Coccidiosis. I have had to use this with a kid after weaning and it helped tremendously!
  • Penicillin – we always have this on hand.
