Video Blog: Our very first show

Today Kate and EB earned their first Grand Champion ribbon in the Junior Novice Fitting and Showing class. It was VERY exciting. Because this was both of their very first time in the show ring we were alla bit nervous. But Kate and EB’s practice paid off and they did a fantastic job!

Kate and Dozer also competed in their first Pack Fitting and Showing class. The Pack Fitting and Showing class is an obstacle course where the handler is judged on how they get their goat ready for a hiking/packing trip and how they handle the goat over obstacles. Kate has been working really hard with both Dozer and Ryder, but only one goat could participate and since Dozer has more experience leading Kate chose him. During most of the trail course show it was raining and most goats dislike rain and water.Since there was a big puddle in the front of the barn they decided to make it a part of the course. We had never practiced walking through water with Dozer and he wasn’t super excited to get his nice clean hooves dirty, but Kate didn’t give up and he eventually walked through it. We had also practiced a lot of stepping up onto buckets and logs so when it came time to weave AROUND the buckets he got confused and tried to hop on it and ended up stepping over it as it was a bit too small to stand on. But all in all Kate and Dozer did a GREAT job for their first course. Because they were in the Novice class they did not place the goats. However, we watched quite a few other goats compete and feel good that next time when they compete against the more experienced Junior class they will do just fine.

At the end of the day the goats and Kate earned two ribbons and had lots of fun meeting fairgoers and other exhibitors. The onion polish dogs weren’t bad either!
