The Cocktail Farm

The Simple Goodness Cocktail Farm is, as far as we can tell, the world’s first exclusive cocktail farm. Here we grow a variety of herbs, edible flowers, fruits, and vegetables with one goal in mind: make delicious drinks. Located on 10 acres in Buckley, WA, the farm was purchased in the Spring of 2013 by Venise and Ross Cunningham. The first fall after they moved in, they planted an acre of specialty garlic and thus began their farming adventure. The land that sustains the Simple Goodness Farm is experienced in farming, having been a dairy and horse breeding farm in the past. However, both Venise and Ross are first generation farmers learning how to farm year by year, by listening to the local farmers and doing a fair amount of searching on Google.

The garden acres are devoted to growing for Simple Goodness Sisters products and the Simple Goodness Sisters Soda Shop menu. Surplus harvest is brought to the Soda Shop for sale, or preserved for future products using the old fashioned recipes and time-honored techniques we’ve had passed on to us from family and friends, such as canning, freezing, dehydrating, cordials, preserves, and pickles. The farm uses sustainable and regenerative agriculture practices, including using good old fashioned hard labor and plastic mulch rather than chemical pesticides and weed killers in the fields.

The farm is in every way a family farm. Venise and Ross live in the 100 year old farmhouse on the farm where they raise their two young children. Five of the acres house and feed the various farm animals that call the farm home, including cows, goats, pigs, and occasionally a few chickens. Belinda and Venise tend to the cocktail garden together, though Venise is the sister getting her hands dirty most of the seasons.
