Venise’s Blog: Chicken Coop

Today was a beautiful Sunday and since EB is due to have her kids today we decided to stick around the house and work on some projects. I have been trying to convince Ross for a few weeks that we should build a chicken coop and get some chickens. He finally agreed to give it a shot and so today we started the work on our chicken coop. We bought all of our supplies at the Millwork Outlet  and got a great deal! I have been researching the ins and outs of how to build a functional chicken coop and  found the backyard chickens  website to be the most helpful. We started with a shipping container and added doors, windows and a roosting ladder. The shipping box is 72″ long, 48″ wide and 72″ tall. It should work out great because it is just big enough to stand up in. We should be done with the project by the end of the week. I hope to find some chickens on Craigslist and pick them up this weekend. Hopefully by then we will also have some goat kids and it will really start feeling like a farm around here.

The "garden" behind the garden to glass cocktails, Venise is the resident farmer of the Simple Goodness Farm, older sister and goat lover.
